Her name is Rashini

She was born with a cleft lip and palate

On 5 November 2008 little Rashini was born in a hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka to her proud parents. Her mum and dad are just 26 years old. She does not have any brothers or sisters.

Her dad is a truck driver who earns 450 rupees per day (USD $4 or GBP £3). He works 60 hours per week transporting goods from Colombo. Her mum cannot work as she has to take care of her elderly grandparents physically and financially.

They live with her Grandparents who live in the village of Eheliyagoda in a remote part of Sri Lanka. They can only just afford to pay their bills.

The financial help enabled Rashini have surgery.

After her first operation the initial corrections were made. We were advised that the surgery had to be carried out in two or three stages, each stage costing around USD $1,000/GBP£700.

Help for Rashini is now a dream that has come true for this family. Little Rashini now can look forward to a better quality of life and a future.
